When a CWI Level 2 certificant has 40 lead climbing outings and progresses to climbing 5.9, the certificant is ready for the CWI Level 3 course. The course is delivered in a blended learning format with an assessment of the knowledge, technical skills, instructional skills, and the ability to make sound judgments.

These are the roles and responsibilities for all individuals certified at CWI Level 3:

  • All responsibilities of Levels 1 and 2
  • Act as a climbing facility monitor, offer orientations, belay checks, and orientations for lead climbing

You must complete all sections in order:

1. Complete Course Content
2. Attend Mandatory Virtual Call
3. Submit Assignment
4. Complete Final Exam
5. Complete Course Evaluation 
6. Skill-Based Assessment which will be completed by your instructor at a prescheduled date.
7. Schedule and Attend Exit Interview. Must be scheduled with instructor.

  • Aug 10th: Course opens
  • Mandatory course virtual classroom meetings:
    • Wed Aug 19th: 10 am - 12 pm MT*
    • Wed Aug 26th: 10 am - 12 pm MT
    • Wed Sept 2nd: 10 am - 12 pm MT
  • Fri Sept 4th: Video uploads due
  • September 7th-11th: Individual Exit interviews scheduled.
